The Final Countdown - Books and Chessbase Format

Containing more than 100 examples, a fresh look at King and Pawn endings, a part of the chess game which, the author claims, every ambitious player needs to master. Explains the fundamental principles of pawn endings, and features numerous self-test exercises.
"Unfortunately chess books that teach individuals how to think and how to evaluate a position are in the minority ("Best Lessons of a Chess Coach" is one of these exceptional books, and I highly recommend it). "The Final Countdown" falls short in this regard, but it could be rewritten with the examples used and be a five star book. Jeremy Silman recommends this book (maybe he should rewrite it!!), and he is perhaps the best chess teacher of his peers." - Amazon.com

A Startling Chess Opening Repertoire

A Startling Chess Opening Repertoire
Tired of being surprised in the opening by your opponents? Horrified by the idea of studying many hours each week to keep up to date with main-line openings? Then this is the book for you!
For here is a repertoire of opening lines for White, based on starting with Bobby Fischer's favorite move 1 e4, that are slightly off the beaten track, but full of practical sting and cunning traps for unwary opponents. All are based on rapid, healthy development, central control and play against the enemy king. You go straight form the opening in to a sharp, little-explored middlegame where you will be better prepared than your opponent.
Chris Baker is a strong English player who achieved his final norm for the International Master title in the British League in 1995/6. He is a full-time chess trainer and a regular tournament competitor.

Test Your Chess IQ: Grandmaster Challenge

There is no better way to improve your tactical ability than by working out winning combinations in positions taken from Grandmaster games. In this final - and most challenging! - part of his best-selling three-volume course in chess tactics, Russian chess teacher Livshitz provides a wealth of test-yourself positions identified under recurring combinational themes such as diversion, interference, X-ray attack and many more! Solving these positions will stretch your imagination to the full and enable you to test and assess your Chess IQ.

The Dragon

Power Play is a complete training system designed to help you understand an opening. Instead of leaving the reader floundering through endless lines of analysis trying to figure out what's important and remember it later, Power Play! identifies the critical positions and helps you understand them the old-fashioned way, 'one position at a time'. Study the 70 key games in this book and learn the 48 carefully selected Power Play! positions and you'll find yourself an instant expert in this violent counter-attacking system.

Paul Hodges, a correspondence master both in Britain and the United States, has made a career out of isolating key positions for definitive testing in postal competition. For more than 16 years, the Dragon has been the mainstay of his opening repertoire against 1. e4. International grandmaster Ron Henley is one of America's strongest players and a born teacher. In 1990 he served as Anatoly Karpov's second in his bid to regain the title from Garry Kasparov.

Bishop Against Knight

In chess, the technique of exchanging pieces is the ultimate knowledge. The biggest specialists of this were such greats as Akiba Rubinstein and Vasily Smyslov. The exchange bishop for knight is the most common case. The technique of exploiting the individual power of these pieces is completely different. The bishop is well placed on certain strategical outposts where it controls diagonals or both flanks. The technique of knight play is much more complicated, since this piece can attack weaknesses of any colour and thus may change its target many times. The knight is especially strong in the centre, in blockade positions and against doubled pawns - all these cases are explained on this product. Enjoy!

Classical Steinitz French With 5.Nf3

In recent years the Classical Variation of the French Defence (1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6) has been very popular with many different playable options for Black after either 4.Bg5 of 4.e5 Nfd7 5.f4. Yet by playing 4.e5 Nfd7 5.Nf3 White can sidestep these and get the game back onto his own turf. In the main line White can choose between two different approaches, purely positional play or a violent plan involving castling long. The first of these plans has been used extensively by Australian GM Ian Rogers whilst Alexandra Kosteniuk has played the second with great effect. Both these plans are explained making this product suitable for players of every style. A number of transpositions are also mentioned by which the lines covered can be reached via a 1.e4 e6 2.Nf3 move order or even an Alekhine's Defence!

The London - System

It is interesting to note that the London-System is very well known in amateur circles as White can reach a playable position after the opening phase without having to have a lot of theory knowledge. This fact alone underlines the solidity of the London-System.

As the system covers all variations after 1 .d4 d5 (lazy people can also use it against 1 ...Nf6), it must be regarded as a universal weapon. But if this system is so good, then why is it still so little-known?

However, there are also a few people among the top grandmasters who think otherwise. Gata Kamsky for instance used the London-System with reasonable success and the London-System is very popular one or perhaps two steps lower down at the IM- to FM-level, as White can easily avoid long theory variations, forcing his opponent to play chess from the very beginning.

The much-praised solidity should not be mistaken for boredom as in truth the concept for a very dangerous kingside attack is inherent in the London-System. Numerous games have been decided in favour of White long before the 30th move just because Black underestimated the white set-up.

Beat The Slav - The Classical Way in 60 minutes

Beat the Slav the classical way
The Slav has become one of the most popular defences against the advance of the d-pawn on the first move, and every ambitious d4-player faces the question how to successfully tackle this opening in tournament practice. The strongest attempt is considered to be the move 4. Nf3, leading to interesting positions which promise White good chances to get an advantage. Black's main replies are 4. dxc4 and 4. e6. On this DVD Rustam Kasimdzhanov investigates in detail the line 4. dxc4, in which he has great experience. Showing selected grandmaster games, the ex-world champion shares his knowledge with the viewer to explain how White has to place his pieces and which plans he has at his disposal. Learn the secrets of the dxc4-line and improve your chances of success with 1.d4

Chess Vision Trainer

Chess Vision Trainer is a chess training system designed to develop and improve your visualization and move calculation skills in Chess.
When Alekhine was asked "How many moves do you see ahead?" his answer was "Just one move deeper than my opponent!".
The built-in chess playing engine acts as your training partner. The position displayed on the chess board is not the true position but the past position a certain number of half-moves before the true position.
Then, there is the concept of 'Blindfold Areas'. Blindfold Areas are quadrants of the chess board and these are areas where the pieces are invisible. One of the intentions of this concept is to solve the problem of 'blind spots'. Using the concept of Blindfold Areas will also help you to develop chess board memory. This idea of dividing the chess board into quadrants for the purpose of visualization is revealed by Buckley in his excellent book Practical Chess Analysis.

The Catalan: A Complete Repertoire for White

The Catalan is one of the most solid openings for White. It forms part of the large and strong fianchetto family in which White builds his strategy mainly around the bishop on g2. The current DVD covers all of Black’s replies to the Catalan, some of which can even transpose to other openings such as the Tarrasch System and the Queen’s Indian. The author’s idea is, as it was in previous DVDs he has published in this area, to help White against all classical setups for Black. Though the DVD is aimed at players of the white pieces, it still might be useful for those who have Black so that they will better understand the coming threats. It would make little sense to mention all the strong players who include the Catalan in their repertoire. Suffice it to say that the Catalan rules!

Endgames for Experts

If you want to play successful chess you must pay great attention to the endgame. Because it is only if you handle the endgame correctly that you can turn an advantageous position into a full point or save half a point from an inferior position. On this DVD, Rustam Kasimdzhanov analyses the type of practical endgames which tournament players encounter on a daily basis. We are talking here about endgames which are still full of life, endgames which in the final analysis must be played out over the board. Using selected games of his own, he shows the importance of understanding positional factors such as an advantage in space, piece activity, pawn weaknesses, strong and weak squares, pawn majorities, passed pawns, etc. He explains what has to be known in order to make the correct strategic decisions and to find the correct plan in such endings. Studying the examples in this 3.5 hour long video course will certainly pay off for you in your own games. Kasimdzhanov’s outstanding and easily understandable explanations will certainly help you to substantially improve your own performance in the endgame.

Experience the fascination of the chess duel “Man vs. Machine” in a unique combination from past and present: the Turk & Fritz Chess 9. Face up to the duel.
